                        COMMON NOUNS AND PROPER NOUNS

A common noun is the name of an entire class of persons, places, things, or ideas.  It is a general name and does not refer to a special person, place, thing, or idea. 

A proper noun is the name of a particular person, place, thing or idea.  A proper noun always begins with a capital letter.  It may also consist of more than one word.
