                                 NOUNS THAT SHOW POSSESSION

A possessive noun shows ownership.  It tells to what or to whom another nouns belongs.  Here are the rules for writing possessive nouns.


  1. To form the possessive of a singular noun, add an apostrophe and s.

Examples: 

teacher – teacher’s  Charles – Charles’s      night – night’s



  1. There are two rules for forming the possessive of plural nouns.

    1. If a plural noun ends in s, simply add an apostrophe after the s.
                    Example:            horses’         families’            boxes’

  
    1. If a plural noun does not end in s, add an apostrophe and an s.
                     Example:         children’s         women’s          men’s
